The Cutting Room Floor : Edition 3

The Cutting Room Floor is a space for Pastor Linda to share sermon ideas and information that didn’t make the cut. While this content was unused in her Sunday sermon, she believes it is still valuable and worth sharing. We hope you enjoy The Cutting Room Floor!

Earthing

Have you heard about earthing? It’s easy to mock the notion, because its commercial successes thus far outweighs any scientifically provable benefit. The concept promoted by its advocates is that the electrical charge in our human bodies is out of balance because we have so little direct contact with the natural properties of earth. As creatures our bodies are rooted someplace. Most often on concrete sidewalks, in synthetic soled shoes, playing computer games or shopping or working on an electronic device.

When we stand or walk barefoot, or sleep without benefit of plasticized or rubber mats for comfort, our slightly positively charged bodies are able to absorb electrons from the earth, restoring the bodies energy, joy, even health.  I’ll walk barefoot on any lush green lawn or warm ocean beach but I’m not yet ready to buy a $200 energy balancing sheet to sleep on.

But… the idea of reclaiming our rootedness to the earth, our source, runs in parallel to our reconnecting to our spiritual rootedness in God/Christ as well!

Macronutrients

In my last message, I suggested 6 “macronutrients” in which we are rooted in Christ:

  • Creativity
  • Reconciliation (with Peacemaking)
  • Hope
  • Justice (with Mercy)
  • Love
  • Joy

Which of these are most essential for your spiritual stability and nourishment? What else is essential which is not on this list?
